Health Services
The primary purpose of Health Services is to encourage positive preventive health practices among students at the Academy. Students are responsible for their own health practices and may wish to consider the following in making choices about their lifestyles:
- How to make a decision
- Concepts of preventive medicine
- How to cope with stress and distress
- Principles of nutrition and weight control
- The effects of smoking, drugs, and alcohol
- The importance of sleep
- The value of personal hygiene
Health Services is staffed by Registered Nurses who are available to provide the necessary information for students to make responsible decisions about their own lifestyles and health practices. Recognizing that each individual has unique needs and goals, the Health Services staff strives to restore and/or maintain the physical and mental health of all WMA students so that they may obtain an optimal level of wellness. In addition, they encourage communication between students and parents and work to facilitate understanding so that the needs and goals of both parties may be satisfied.
The Health Services staff respects the need for confidentiality and will not violate that trust unless a student's actions are deemed injurious to themselves or others.
Health Services, located in Benton House, is open from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. During the hours that Health Services is closed the on-call nurse can be accessed via a beeper.
