Entrepreneurial Initiatives

Students learn to think and act like entrepreneurs, including utilizing opportunity evaluation, critical thinking, and flexibility in all areas of academic life. Students are engaged in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of real programs, including for-profit and nonprofit ventures. While students are learning about globalism in theory, CEGS provides real-world opportunities to use those skills.

Current Projects:

The Global EcoLearn Projecttm

Entrepreneurship students and biology students have been collaborating on The Global EcoLearn Projecttm. The biology students have been preparing pretreatment forest product inventories on two study sites on Academy property, and students in the entrepreneurship class have contributed by designing products for WMA families and Alumni. As a first project, the class has designed personalized baseball bats for sale.

The Global EcoLearn Projecttm has been a way for the students to get first-hand experience in establishing and maintaining a business and to learn that nature and commerce can co-exist. As a testment to its good work, the project was awarded a grant from Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education in 2008.
