Overview

Wilbraham & Monson Academy Softball was established shortly after the merger of the two school in 1971 and developed substantially after the arrival of Coach Don Kelly in 1977.  The team is part of the Western New England Prep School Softball Association (WNEPSSA) and plays a competitive schedule that includes Class A, B and C schools. In the 2010 season, the Titan Softball program earned the fourth seed in the WNEPSSA Class C tournament.  This is the first time in school history the team has made the WNEPSSA tournament, and the Titans look to improve upon their performance in the 2011 season.

Philosophy

The focus of the program is on developing solid defense skills, fundamental hitting, and aggressive base running. Through the course of a season, there is strong emphasis placed on developing sustained physical and mental effort, learning to improve individual skills and team performance, and learning how to react positively to mistakes. An essential component of a Titan Softball practice is to build and maximize physical ability.  Each day, through practice and training, we look to develop the ten recognized general physical skills:  coordination, agility, balance, accuracy, power, speed, flexibility, endurance, stamina, and strength.

Coach Erik Kindblom feels it is very important that athletes participate in multiple sports, and strongly encourages his players to do so. If athletes are to fully develop their own ability, a general, wide-ranging and extensive approach to athletic competition and physical fitness is vital. Coach Kindblom says, "I want every student-athlete I coach to feel valued in all aspects of their lives at the Academy. Academics is first and foremost, and I will continually remind them that this is the most important aspect of their future. Softball is meant to be a fun experience, and a way for them to push themselves to excel in a different way, but ultimately to develop them further for the challenges of life."

I am always looking for the opportunity to meet student-athletes who have a strong work ethic in the classroom and on the athletic field, and share with them the opportunities that exist here at WMA. The Academy has a long tradition of academic excellence and very strong college placement, and we have many student-athletes who go on and continue playing their sport in college. If you are interested in learning more about the Titan Softball program, please feel free to contact me either by e-mail at ekindblom@WMA.us or by phone at 413.596.9104. I look forward to meeting you!
