HISTORY & EQUIPMENT
Riflery has been a competitive sport for more than 60 years at WMA. The Academy has a five-point indoor firing range and the Cowdrey Rifle Ready Room, which was donated by Charles F. and Elizabeth C. Cowdrey. Charles Cowdrey is the great grandson of Dr. James Naismith, the creator of basketball. The team uses Anshutz competition .22 rifles and shoots at A-17 11 bull targets from 50 feet. All equipment is supplied by WMA.
TEAM & MATCH INFORMATION
Riflery is an interscholastic sport during the winter trimester. Shooters fire in four positions (prone, sitting, kneeling and standing). Shooters have 30 seconds to fire five shots in each position. We compete in the Connecticut League against Avon, Suffield and Xavier.
RESPONSIBILITY
Team members play a vital role in spotting, scoring and caring for the equipment. Team members follow strict safety regulations, and the proper use, handling and storage of firearms is emphasized at all times.
